How it all started

Moyo started in MOZAMBIQUE, 2020 by Fredrik Sandin who lives in the country´s capital MAPUTO. After visiting neighbouring South Africa, it became clear how far behind Mozambique is in terms of agricultural development in comparsion. Only a few kilometers away, at the national borders, the differences are striking. In South Africa, huge plantations grow in a structured and orderly manner. Cultivation in Mozambique mostly takes place on a small scale despite the fact that both countries have almost the same soil types and natural conditions – land and climate with enormous potential for agriculture and indirect economic growth.

With a past of working as a chef Fredrik was naturally curious about Mozambiques’ culinary offer.

Fredrik has previously worked as a chef with his own restaurant and was therefore (spoiler alert) curious about what Mozambique had to offer. He explored what is unique to Mozambique in terms of food and its range of different types of nuts quickly stood out. Nuts in all their forms are sold everywhere, mainly by street vendors. During a stay in SWEDEN, he was struck by how poor the supply and quality of nuts were compared to Mozambique, especially when it comes to Macadamias (which are difficult to find in European countries).
The plan

Mozambique

Mozambique has a population characterized by kindness, hospitality and openness. But at the same time, people are suffering from extreme poverty, hunger and unemployment. In recent years, Mozambique has also been hit by several natural disasters that have exacerbated the situation.
